SWEDlSH LIGHTHOUSE SOCIETY FORMED: Esbjorn Hillberg was happy to report that the Swedish Lighthouse Society has been founded on October 5, 1996. The aims of the society are to 1. Promote and develop the interest for and the knowledge of L/Hs and L/H developments and to these related subjects. 2. To work for the preservation of Swedish L/H s and L/H developments. 3. In cooperation with historical and cultural institutions research and document the history of individual L/H s and people. 4. To initiate contacts and cooperation with other Swedish and foreign LH societies and organizations. Esbjorn Hillberg deserves a hearty "Well Done" for his efforts in the establishment of the new society. Anyone of our readers that might be interested can contact Esbjorn at HUS 154, S-430 82 Donso, Sweden. Phone ++46 4631972148.
SWEDEN'S LIGHTHOUSE: Esbjorn Hillberg recently moved from London to Donso in Sweden. He is an avid lighthouse enthusiast and is working to start a Lighthouse Society in Sweden. He sent a copy of September 1, 1996 edition of the third largest Swedish Newspaper the Goteborgs-Posten. The centerfold of the paper has the nicest layout about lighthouses that I have ever seen. The entire two pages are completely covered with 101 photographs of Swedish Lighthouses. All are in color and what must be the lighthouse of the month is 15 inches high. Of course all of this is in Swedish and I do not understand a single word. Esbjorn tells me that the daily newspaper has the policy of dedicating a Lighthouse of the Month the first day of every month for the past 100 months. During the remainder of each month they print a small picture of that month's lighthouse on the first page of every daily issue. What a great idea! The owner and Managing Director is very interested in a possible Swedish Lighthouse Society. We certainly wish them luck. Esbjorn's new address is Hus 154, s-43082 Donso, Sweden. phone 46 (0)31 - 972148. I wish there was some way to Xerox this but it measures 22 " high and 31" wide. However, the local newspaper did a story on this and took a picture of me holding the newspaper. Xerox copy available.
